From undrafted player to Stanley Cup champion, Nick Kypreos’s story is one of grit, reinvention, and relentless drive. The son of Greek immigrants, Nick grew up in Toronto dreaming of playing for the Maple Leafs. Though overlooked in the NHL Draft, he worked his way up through the OHL and eventually signed as a free agent, reinventing himself as a tough, team-first enforcer. Known for his positive impact in the locker room and his willingness to take on the league’s toughest opponents, Nick played eight seasons in the NHL with the Hartford Whalers, Washington Capitals, and New York Rangers – helping the latter win the Stanley Cup in 1994, their first in 54 years.
Later fulfilling his childhood dream by playing for the Leafs, Nick’s career was cut short by post-concussion syndrome. But once again, he adapted—this time transitioning seamlessly into broadcasting. Today, he’s a respected hockey analyst for Sportsnet and co-host of Real Kyper and Bourne on The Fan 590. With hard-earned insight and unfiltered commentary, Nick speaks from experience about what it takes to climb the toughest path in pro hockey: from undrafted to undeniable.
