Sophiane Méthot, born and raised in Longueuil, Quebec, started gymnastics at the age of 8 years old after she watched the movie Stick It in theatres. Sophiane made a name for herself on the international stage when she won first place in the 2015 World Age Group Champion in the women’s 17-18 category. She then went on to become a two-time Pan American Champion in women’s individual trampoline and the non-Olympic synchronized trampoline event in 2018 and 2016. Outside of gymnastics, Sophiane is currently completing a master’s degree in finance, and enjoys traveling with her friends during the offseason. As a member of the COC’s Athletes’ Commission, Sophiane lends her time and experience to bettering the lives of Canadian Olympic athletes.
Sophiane has gone on in her career to bring home three FIG bronze medals, one Trampoline World Cup bronze medal, and one Olympic bronze medal, but not without obstacles along the way. She struggled with an injury during the qualification process for the 2020 Olympic Games but returned to competition in late 2021 and has since been a consistent performer for Canada. With her motto “The pain is temporary, but victory lasts forever,” Sophiane is primed to be a true competitor for Canada for years to come.
