After being formally granted Canadian citizenship by Minister Marc Miller in 2024, Erin Brooks declared, “I’ve never been prouder to wear the Maple Leaf.” Erin, who was born in the United States but has strong Montreal family ties, had previously competed for Canada for more than three years, placing on podiums all around the world, before obtaining citizenship.

Erin, a real phenomenon, didn’t begin surfing until she was nine years old. She immediately fell in love with the sport after relocating to Maui, and she later trained with Kahea Hart on Oahu’s North Shore. Her rise was swift, marked by great performances for Team Canada, a historic victory at Stab High in 2021, and a viral Waco edit in 2019.

In 2022, she won Canada’s first-ever ISA Junior World Championship gold and was the youngest and only female finalist in Bali’s Padang Padang Cup. Judges praised her as being “like an alien” after she won silver at the 2023 ISA World Surf Games, the nation’s first international surfing medal.

By winning her second-ever WSL Challenger Series event in 2023 and earning a spot on the full tour in 2024, Erin, who is still in her teens, created history once more. Erin Brooks is already changing the landscape of women’s surfing with her daring dedication, high-flying airs, and motto, “hesitation leads to devastation.” And she’s only just beginning.
