Brendan Gallagher is a gamer.
That special blend of fearlessness and ceaseless effort where the sum of the player’s parts supercedes pure hockey talent.
He’s become everything that the Montreal Canadiens could’ve asked for in a young leader and right winger from a late NHL draft pick.
As a young player and the son of the strength and conditioning coach for the WHL’s Vancouver Giants, Brendan learned to leverage physicality and energetic shiftwork to make the most of his 5-foot-9 frame.
Coincidentally, Brendan was drafted to the Giants in the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft, where he emerged as their All-Time Leader in both goals and points.
In 2010, Brendan was drafted to the Montreal Canadiens and, and played his first NHL game in 2013.
That same year, he was nominated for the Calder Memorial Trophy – awarded to the NHL’s Rookie of the Year – where he placed second in voting.
And in 2015, Gallagher was named as one of four alternate captains, an honour that is not lost on him.
The assignment reflected the respect he had earned not only amongst the team, but also throughout the entire league.
Known affectionately as “Gally” to his teammates, Brendan has earned his place among the leadership core that is as solid as any franchise in the league – including Carey Price and Shea Weber.
In October 2020, Brendan signed a six-year extension with the Canadiens, where he’ll continue to play with the coveted ‘A’ on his jersey and for the original six crest on the front.
